Silent Counselling
Silent Counselling is a non invasive therapy where a combination of muscle testing, breathwork and acupuncture meridian points are used to locate and discharge negative emotions held within your energy body, without the need to talk about any traumatic events.
Any trauma which has occurred in your body, is held within your cells and over time, can affect your life in a number of different ways, both emotionally and physically. Left untreated, this trauma can become the cause of dis-ease.
Phobias, anxieties, negative thought patterns and self sabotage are all products of trauma, and can be released without the need for talking therapy.
Physical issues can also be treated, even if the cause is unknown, for example skin and gut disorders such as eczema, acne or IBS.
I have watched many clients go from a state of fear to freedom with 1-2 sessions. The number of sessions required depends on the issues being faced but the average person should require no more than 3, but often gets the desired results after just 1 session.
The client is asked to focus on the issue they wish to disconnect from – this can either be a physical symptom, a memory or a feeling. While focusing on this, I use muscle testing to locate the meridian points where the trauma is stored*.
Once the meridians are located, I talk the client through how to put pressure on each meridian point and we use breath work to release the emotion. This is all done while the client thinks about their issue, with no need to talk about how they feel. It is really that simple!
*(muscle testing requires me to touch the clients fingers. Should you not be comfortable with this please let me know as alternatives are available).
John and Marjorie Cooper created Silent Counselling within their BioEnergy practice in Dundee, Scotland, when they were faced with an 18 year old female client whom had gone through a very traumatic life; being prostituted as a child, and with an addiction to drugs and alcohol, but was unable to speak due to the trauma in her body. They used both their studies and experiences in the field of bioenergetics to come up with a technique to allow this young lady to release the trauma she carried in order to find her voice again. Without the need to talk, the trauma was located and released, therefore after using it on many more clients and seeing amazing results, the name “Silent Counselling” was created.
Results will be obvious after 1 session, with this being all that is required for most clients. Depending on the extent of the trauma, a further 1 to 2 sessions may needed if the trauma is stored in multiple places.
Once you have made yourself comfortable in the studio, a short consultation will take place where I will explain the process and ensure you are comfortable. I will also check if you are focusing on a feeling, physical ailment, or memory.
Once the muscle testing/breathwork is completed (see How does it work?) the client may feel a number of different things: some feel lighter, some feel the need to cry, some feel nothing at all at the time. Everyone’s reaction is very different.
A short energy clearing exercise will be carried out to clear any residual energies, and depending on the issue being addressed, some breathwork exercises can be recommended to help the client stay grounded in their day to day life.
An option of combining the Silent Counselling appointment with a reiki session is available (see Booking Information), where your Silent Counselling session will be completed by moving over to the Reiki bed where you will receive a very relaxing session of reiki, clearing each chakra and leaving you in a state of bliss for the rest of the day.

Reiki
Reiki is a gentle, hands-on treatment, where the therapist is a channel for life force energy, on to particular chakra positions on the body.
The benefits reported by clients include deep relaxation, promoting a calm, peaceful sense of balance and wellbeing, on all levels.
Reiki can create a greater inner harmony and balance; regular Reiki treatments promote development of a healthier, more resourceful state of being.
Reiki’s gentle energy is easily adapted to most medical conditions and may be used safely by people of all ages, from new-born babies to the frail and the elderly. It is widely used with pregnant mothers, surgical patients and many other conditions.
I am a member of the Reiki Federation.
Where did Reiki originate?
Reiki has its origins in India and the East, dating back thousands of years to the time before Jesus and Buddha. It is believed the discovery of the chakra system began in India around 1500-500 BC. The first mention of the Sanskrit word “chakra” was in the Vedas written text.
The original name, disciplines and techniques of Reiki were lost due to the traditional method of passing knowledge from generation to generation by word of mouth. Exactly when this ancient art of healing disappeared cannot be determined. However, we do know that this ancient healing method was re-discovered in the middle of the nineteenth century by Dr Mikao Usui and he named this Reiki from the Japanese words ‘Rei’ meaning universal, and ‘Ki’ meaning life force energy.
How does it work?
The treatment channels energy to balance the chakras. Where a particular chakra is healthy, balanced and open, so are its connected body parts, but if a chakra is blocked, damaged or closed, then the health of the connected body parts and systems will begin to reflect this. Our chakras, like our aura, are affected by everything that happens to us – good and bad.
When you feel well and healthy, the flow of Ki energy in your body is high. Life feels easier to cope with and you have a higher resistance to illness and disease. However, when your Ki energy is low (maybe due to stress, sadness, etc) you can become more susceptible to sickness. You can also perhaps feel negative and find it hard to deal with life’s challenges.
Another important use is to promote personal growth as Reiki increases intuitive, intellectual and creative processes and has a similar physiological effect on the body to meditation.
What should I expect in a session?
After an initial client consultation (to find out if you have any particular areas requiring attention), you will be invited to make yourself comfortable on the treatment bed. Your comfort is of utmost importance to ensure you have a relaxing treatment so more pillows/blankets can be added if required!
Once you are settled, the lights will be dimmed slightly and I will spend some time grounding myself (standing at the top of the bed) before beginning with the reiki hand positions over each chakra. My hands will be placed lightly on top of your clothing/blanket.
There are no ‘rules’ with how long to spend on each hand position, as a therapist is guided by his/her intuition therefore some hand positions may be held for longer than others depending on what I am feeling.
You will begin to feel heat building up under my hands/on your body and some areas may feel hotter than others.
Once all hand positions are completed I may return to a position that has already been covered, again, led by my intuition. When I feel satisfied that your body has received the life force energy it requires, I will ground your legs/feet with some gentle touch, before cutting energetic ties.
You will be offered a glass of water and be given some aftercare guidance before the session ends.
Is Reiki a religion?
Although an ancient healing technique. Reiki is neither a cult, a religion, nor is it dependent on a belief system. It is used extensively within the Medical and Paramedical fields worldwide.
Do you have to believe in it?
You don’t have to believe in Reiki for it to have a deep effect on you. You don’t have to believe that fruit is delicious in order to enjoy it. But you do have to take a bite first.
To really believe in something is to have faith and trust in oneself. To have doubt about anything doesn’t stop the flow of Universal Life Force energy. You only draw to yourself that amount of energy that you require at that or any other moment. You never take or receive more than you need. If you don’t believe in what you are receiving, you will only receive that which will help you at that moment, to come to a greater understanding of yourself. If, on the other hand, you have complete faith and trust in yourself, then you are open to receiving much more.
What will happen in my body when I receive Reiki?
Healing can occur on many different levels:
Physical – This may mean eradicating an illness completely or it could mean limiting or alleviating the symptoms for a time.
Emotional – could allow you to calm any fears and to reach an acceptance of feelings which are arising for you.
Mental – could enable you to think differently about a situation or circumstance, perhaps bringing to your attention the lessons a situation is trying to teach you and promoting understanding of causative issues.
Spiritual – could enable you to develop a more loving and forgiving relationship with yourself and/or others.
Is the practitioner sending me the Healing Energy?
No, a reiki practitioner is a channel for the life force energy. Your body is in charge of your healing, and will take the right amount of energy it needs from the channel of Life Force Energy being given to you.
Do I have to lie down?
Lying on a treatment bed is not essential. If you are more comfortable sitting in a chair then a treatment can be carried out this way. Likewise, if you are uncomfortable with any part of the body being touched then “hands-off” reiki can be used where the hands are slightly above the body.

My Story
After many years working in a corporate setting, I met my (now husband) James, and together we left the city to carve out the life we had pictured together in the country. I had a keen interest in health, loved all things fitness and nutrition and so when it came to starting a family, I thought it would be a breeze! After a year of trying and no baby, I made a reiki appointment on a whim after reading an article about the benefits. My reiki session put me into a state of relaxation I had never experienced….it was bliss….and that was the same week my daughter was conceived! When I realised the impact the reiki had had on me, having cleared an energy block, I knew it was my calling, and started my training with Jenny, the same lady who had given me that first session.
Having my first child blew my heart wide open, changed every part of me (turned me into a hippie, some might say!) and opened me up to a deeper sense of self, diving deep into spiritual teachings. Life passed and my son was born. When he was 2, I saw someone in the comments section of a Facebook thread mention they were trained in Silent Counselling. I had never heard of it but I instantly knew it was for me. Once I researched and realised that Marjorie (my teacher and one of the creators of silent counselling) was only a half hour from my home, there was no doubt then it was also my calling. These synchronicities in life are never by chance!
Both reiki and silent counselling light up my heart, I’m so passionate about helping people, whether it be to relax for 40 minutes, or to help them release stored trauma, I bring the same enthusiasm and love to both.
